Concrete Studio

Type New Residential Addition Status Documentation Location Melbourne’s inner east.

Designed as a flexible guest house or entertaining space, Concrete Studio cuts a distinctive figure in the garden.

Formed of timeless solid concrete and natural timber, the studio houses flexible double storey living spaces within a singular form that reaches towards sun and sky.

EHA Concrete Studio sketch section

Cleverly arranged, the double storey floorplan offers flexibility and a sense of space within an efficient footprint. Passive solar and biophilic design is inherent in the design approach - the design lifts towards the sunlight and views to the north, however each orientation provides controlled views to engage with the surrounding gardens.

Concrete Studio is designed for longevity and adaptability, with timeless and durable material choices, and careful composition of space offering opportunity for different uses as needs change with time. In essence a small second residence, the studio is currently a guest residence and entertaining space, but is also envisaged as a possible future art studio, a teenager retreat, a grandparent residence or even a potential Air BnB.
